Our 2011 Accomplishments...
Incorporation of MCL - Seeing the need to organize our efforts, MCL leadership elected a Board of Directors, and drew up articles of incorporation as a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization.
Membership– Our membership roles grew from 635 to over 900.
Health Care Freedom Amendment - MCL was a very active supporter of Ohio's Grassroots initiative to amend our State Constitution and preserve for our citizenry, the freedom to choose, free of any stifling mandates from Washington DC our choices in healthcare. Two of our members with experience in the health care field provided testimony to legislators at the Ohio Statehouse. Miami County Liberty was instrumental in gathering thousands of signatures and seeing the initiative get on the ballot in November. The HCFA received overwhelming support from voters across the political spectrum.
Speakers' Bureau - An outgrowth of our energetic HCFA Petition Drive, MCL saw a need to reach out to our community and provide information on HCFA, as well as other issues of importance to voters. We provided knowledgeable speakers to a number of venues.
US Constitution Seminar - In July, Miami County Liberty joined with our Shelby County Liberty Group neighbors and hosted a successful seminar on the Constitution. Over 50 of our neighbors and friends attended, and gained tremendous insight into the origins of this great document. The course was taught by a noted speaker from the National Center for Constitutional Studies (NCCS).
Meetings - MCL held seven general membership meetings. We continue to enjoy strong support from our host, Club 55, in Troy. We also held leadership meetings to develop general meeting content. Our goal was and continues to be to provide substance and timely information to our members. Some of our most notable guests included former Congressman Dick Armey, and Matt Kibbe from FreedomWorks, Sherriff Mack, State Treasurer and US Senate candidate Josh Mandel, State Senator Bill Beagle, and State Representative Dick Adams.
Ohio Liberty Convention - MCL provided substantial support and participation in Ohio's first statewide gathering of Liberty Groups.
MCL Website and Mail - In order to reach out and communicate with our members and the general public, MCL worked hard on expanding content on the website. MCL has also developed an effective mail system used sparingly to advise neighbors and friends of MCL events, and political happenings.
Fund Raising - Several of our Board members have developed an effective program for soliciting financial support from interested citizens and supporters of MCL. A benefit of this initiative is that MCL has been able to deliver billboard advertising, signage and associated materials to the public, to fulfill our mission to inform, inspire and involve.
Election 2011 - MCL was involved early on in promoting our cause. Related to our work on HCFA, we enrolled a substantial number of new voters. MCL assisted with voter turnout by manning call centers and procuring our own robo-calls with the message that voter involvement was vital to our success.
Public Activities - MCL was active in community affairs in 2011. We built a float and participated in Tipp City's Mum Festival, and had a booth there. We were also at the Miami County Fair for the week, with a booth designed to inform our neighbors.
